Calm, Cool, Collective
Welcomed over by Akshay- a Delhi friend who used to work for Microsoft and now works for a startup. He is divorced and his son lives in Singapore with his mother. He is nice looking, sophisticated, full of class, and very intelligent.
When I was still in my Airbnb and I told him my back hurt-he said he would send over whatever I needed…a heating pad, food, and any medicine…like so sweet…
When I came over, I told him I had some stressful things happening back in USA and he said to me that he was there if I needed to talk about it as he also shares some similar experiences…such a kind person and such a gentleman. I really wanted to like someone like him, but the attraction was just not there…from the beginning.....This happens where someone is my friend, there is an attraction on their end, and I make it clear that “We are friends” and that is all it is going to be.
His helper(cleaner/cook) made breakfast for us in the morning. He left a note saying there is chutney in the fridge and breakfast on the counter, fresh coconut water, and lunch..dinner…Everything she made was fantastic! He ate vegetarian all of the week except for one day where he would eat non vegetarian-this is common in Indian households. The chicken curry she made and the Soya lentil curry were fantastic and I did my own Italian cooking for him. He was a very picky and selective eater like myself so I was concerned that he was not going to like it, but he loved it- score!
Friday was his workday (going to the office) and for me it was my day to relax and enjoy the gym and view….He lived in this glamourous apartment complex with all the ammenties and the 500 apartments. The pool was right in the middle of all the buildings so people could sit on their balcony and watch you swim...safe to say I did not go swimming.
Friday night we went out together….We were competing to see who could get their cab booked first…He was an “Uber” person and I was an “Ola” person. It was interesting in India because when it was busy-I would start up two apps and request on both to see which one I could get first(sometimes all 3 apps lol- Bangalore traffic). We first went to a place called Publik that I found…we were both very selective about food, atmosphere, fashion-that is the Delhi vibe for you. But I am definitely not a Delhi girl -just a girl with great taste who likes to spend her time and money wisely. We both sat down in some uncomfortable chairs, looked at the menu, and looked up at each other “Should we go somewhere else?”
Usually I am a Master of finding the great spots that locals do not even know about and they end of loving the place....not that time Priscilla.
He was staying in this big tech park area with Microsoft, Goldman and Sachs, all the big banks etc.. He liked going to the same places that he knew were good and consistent so we went with his selection. This gigantic pub for the afterwork drink scene with huge seating areas, multiple bars, and a lake/fountain inside. Bangalore the home of the pubs with great atmospheres!
We were just two friends going out for dinner, but it felt like a date when he was ordering food for us and leaning in asking me these “dating interview” questions. He was really curious about why I chose to be single and not have kids. Why did I choose this lifestyle instead of finding a partner and why keep shifting around to different places?
Oh these questions....from friends....from family....from the universe....I can never avoid these questions. He was really nailing it with asking ALL the right questions that made me really have to think about my response. His questions were super impressive and he was just a “class act” as we say in America. Class, sophistaction, great taste, generous, kind, but also a classic introvert.
