Next stop Mysore Mr. Satish
Went to visit Satish my new favorite person…and much better for me to be around the positive energy and joy that he brings…His home so relaxing and calm….
My new friend, 72, retired Army Lieutenant who I met on my cultural exchange website again...I can’t explain how God hand selects these people that I stay with, but it was a match made in heaven. Another person where we had the best conversations and I was trying to document some of it, but he was just too wise. He always had a great quote, an amazing story, or a life lesson. I thought to myself and I verbalized to him, “Satish, I wish you could be my father.” He reminded me so much of my father the way he read the newspaper, the way he spoke about movies, his love for great music, and the way he sat was just like my father...
Reminders of the father I was supposed to have and the father I did not have, which left a dent on my heart. What would my life be like if I had a father like Satish, my Pastor, my Uncles, my friend’s amazing fathers....my life would be different and loneliness would not be so prominent with a functional mother, a father, and some beautiful close siblings....
Fast forward, he is cooking vegetable pulao and he says that his father taught him how to cook but he had just passed away a couple years ago. His living room has their photo inside of a glass case. I love how he speaks to me so clearly and uses my name, “See Priscilla I love what you said, that is true, that is a good point.” Like proper conversation between two people-a person who listens very well…..the biggest blessing for me so I can talk instead of just listening to everyone.
His assistant Manju dropped me off at the lake with the beautiful sunset…did some running and stayed in the park afterhours because I could not find my way out-India is just not big on the street lights lol
Saturday
Being hot weather between 12 and 4, I stayed inside working on some writing. I had a late lunch at 4 and he replicated the salad he made that I loved so much. When someone knows you love something and they make it again just to make you happy-how sweet. I think I write many things that are normal for others, but when I travel is when I really get heard, cared about, and respected...which makes me very grateful when people are like that with me.
It was like 5 pm and he was off to practice lines for his English play. There is a group of his friends who read and perform different plays throughout the year, which I thought was a great way to practice English and pass the time. He was just super active and always visiting friends, going to the club, playing a sport, and reading scripts.
I went on my own to visit the Hanuman temple (previously visited) to the Mysore palace (previously visited) for the light and sound show, which I got a front row seat, but everything was in Kannada and I had no translator with me. It was not very exciting and people were being way too obnoxious with their phones.
I came home and was really hungry and decide to eat an Upma and then Satish comes back in his friendly manner saying, “I brought ice cream….good ice cream with fresh fruit and he let me choose which one I liked. Both were sundaes one with pistachio and another with vanilla…I chose the smaller one and we sat outside in our little patio area chatting and eating ice cream…it was so nice every moment with him…He was jolly as could be as he had a few drinks and it was funny yet very interesting because he still had the best stories and even better jokes.
