Christian Concert

Prabu had been practicing with me “waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my god that is who you are.”

We put the song on and he was writing lyrics and singing to it. The problem is that he had limited time and didn’t practice enough So he did “bless the lord oh my soul.”

He practiced in front of the director as we sat in the room together and of course the director was complaining that the song was boring and had no spirit in his voice. I told him that I would work with Prabu to make it right.

We attended the Christmas concert myself and the 3 boys-it was lovely just spending time with them. This was a chuch in front of a home for special needs kids- the kids were like the population that I worked with for many years.. they were dressed in such cute, creative costumes for the play. It was nativity scene and full performance of songs and dance. The staff also participated in the show and you could feel the sense of love and family in this home…

This home was opened for a girl named Lily. The parents wanted her to have a home and to be able to share that with friends. It was beautiful to see these people so passionate about helping these special needs kids-about 15 kids total in the home.

The lady kindly welcomed me and Prabu and my little Autistic friend. They sat so nicely and patiently waiting in the church. The church was full, but we got nice front row seating. It was beautiful ,the nativity scene, and Prabu performed after that with my little friend as a drummer. He definitely sang from the heart and I was sitting front row encouraging him and smiling. He did such an amazing job and heasked me, “Did you like it, was it good aka(auntie)”

I said “Yes it was perfect.”

After we had tea and sweets, I met with the father of the church who granted me a lovely prayer. I went into visit with the children and felt that there was a lot of love in that house. The staff really cared about the kids and they were very sweet with their behavior and mannerisms.

Another woman from Kerala is chatting with me about her daughter and another one who Shirley said that she would love for me to visit her daughter an give some assessment. She said she used to volunteer in the home for 8 years, but she took her daughter out of the home because she required a full time nurse. I could see the pure love for her daughter in her eyes…as mentioned many times before the parents that have such deep love and commitment for their children….

A mother like that takes the time to tell me that I am doing wonderful work spending time or working with this population…what a great woman of God. We continued to talk the next day and she was very sweet offering help with different things and wanting to spend time and help me in anyway she could…that is a real Christian…..

It turns out that she ended up getting me a job offer…this woman who cared so much…this woman who was just a stranger that turned into a friend…..

The director shook my hand and said, “Thank you for coming Priscilla, the boys had a wonderful performance, which they did.” I was so happy that I could be there to cheer him on rather than my friend coming and telling him, “Oh that could have been better.” “You were not loud enough.” “You should have stood up taller.”

This voice is very familiar to me because this is the voice of my father….an Indian father very critical of her child.

The boys and I just sat by the tree having sweets and tea… a rare occasion where they were allowed to have sweets so they enjoyed it so much…it was really a special time seeing how much effort and time they put into the performance and it was truly a blessed moment meeting everyone.

Lakith dropped me off by bike back to the main road….where I picked up some things from the pharmacy and then we went back to the home.

We were eating the special chicken biryani that Ragu made for lunch…on Fridays it is non-veg and Ragu was making chicken biryani… I watched him make some of it in between breaks with the kids.  The boys had ate most of it and I had a little of what was leftover-a small portion as I just had paratha and the curry was very light.  The rice everyday was really filling up my stomach and nothing was really coming out….I could feel my stomach becoming very bloated…

The boys and I sat and joked around about how the mosquitoes were eating me alive and they had a mosquito net… but I didn’t have one.  I was so jealous and then I realized they meant the door that was netted in front…. Not a real mosquito net. A lot of my humor does not translate to writing-this is an example (hand on the head emoji).

It was very funny and again entertaining video needed!
